<Alpha Pinene>
It is the main component of turpentine and is extracted by distillation. There are some references where it is used instead of turpentine in painting fluid formulations. It dissolves drying oils, resins, waxes, etc. well, and mixes well with petrol and absolute alcohol. It evaporates slightly faster than turpentine and is somewhat more stable against oxidation by air. It is used to mix various painting fluids for tempera and oil painting.
