A volatile oil obtained by distillation from the flowers and stems of certain lavender plants that grow along the Mediterranean coast.
It evaporates slower than turpentine, but has strong dissolving power. Its surfactant-like effect prevents topcoat varnishes from repelling and improves paint adhesion. It also has a preservative effect.
