A natural balsam made from the sap of Japanese pine trees. It has a high refractive index and gives oil paints excellent luster and transparency. Because it does not leave any traces of handwriting, it is used as a material for the painting fluid used in the glassi technique. If used alone, it tends to turn yellow and dry slowly.
