"Newspaper" by Yoshimura Yoshio
We would like to introduce Yoshimura Yoshio, the author of "Newspaper," which is currently on display in the "Miyatake Yutaka Professor My Collection Exhibition" at our main store.
Yoshimura Yoshio (1950-2013)
His works were created with incredible descriptive power, shocking the contemporary art world with their detailed pencil drawings.
Yoshimura Yoshio
Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1950, he graduated from Yamaguchi College of Arts and then worked for an advertising agency. After leaving the company, he studied printmaking at Sokei Art School in 1976.
He moved his base of operations to Yamaguchi, where he is active. Some of his representative works include "Drawing Newspaper," in which he copied newspaper spreads, and the "Newspaper and Self-Portrait" series, in which he painted self-portraits on top of newspaper copies he had made himself.
The work on display in this exhibition is "Drawing Newspaper," a perfect copy of one of his signature newspaper spreads.
It looks like a real English newspaper, and only when you look closely do you realize it was hand-drawn. Not only the text, but also the diagrams and photos are hand-drawn.
His painstakingly accurate depiction of the subject gives the impression of the artist's obsession and even a hint of madness.
