Yoshimura Yoshio's works are full of astounding descriptive power, including a newspaper with every single character copied onto it and a 10-meter-long colored pencil drawing.

When viewed from a distance, this work looks like an ordinary English newspaper, but Yoshimura Yoshio has drawn all of the letters and even the photographs. He has drawn it patiently with extraordinary concentration.

Yoshimura Yoshio

Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1950. After graduating from Yamaguchi College of Arts, he got a job at an advertising agency. After leaving the company, he studied printmaking at Sokei Art School from 1976.

He moved his base of operations to Yamaguchi.

Representative works include "Drawing Newspaper," in which he copies newspaper spreads verbatim, and the "Newspaper and Self-Portrait" series, in which he paints a self-portrait on top of a newspaper he has copied himself.
