For framing drawing paper and photographs | What is a drawing frame?
Drawing frames are suitable for framing thin items such as drawing paper and photographs.
It is not suitable for thick items, but on the other hand, most thin pieces can be framed.
(Watercolors, posters, photographs, embroidery with little unevenness, etc.)
They come in a variety of materials and designs, including resin, wood, and aluminum.
It consists of ① frame, ② glass (acrylic), and ③ backboard, and the picture is placed between the glass and the backboard.
In most cases, a hollowed-out backing paper called a mat, about 2 mm thick, is placed between the acrylic and the painting.
This is to prevent the painting and acrylic from sticking together and to improve the appearance, and it plays a similar role to the nesting blocks in oil painting frames.
Especially in the case of photography, a mat is necessary to prevent adhesion with the acrylic.

★Even if the work is not exactly the size of the frame, you can put it in a larger frame by filling it with a mat.
★The appearance changes depending on the width of the mat you put over the piece. To make the mat look lighter, use a thin mat in a color similar to the piece, and conversely, a thick mat will make it look flashy.
Three levels of contrast between the frame, mat, and artwork create a beautiful, unified look.
