Which frame should I buy? | How to choose a frame from the pros
I will explain how to choose a frame.
In addition to highlighting the artwork, frames also protect the artwork from dust and dirt and prevent it from deteriorating.
This time, I will explain the process for choosing the amount.
Please use this as a reference to see which frame will fit the work you want to frame (^_-)-☆
Steps for choosing a frame: 1. Select the type of frame 2. Measure the size of the artwork 3. Select a frame that will fit the artwork
① Choose the type of frame . Frames can be broadly divided into oil painting frames and sketch frames (watercolor frames).
・OA frames, panel frames, and other frames are available.
[Oil painting frame]
Oil painting frames are suitable for artworks painted on canvas or wood panels.
Sizes are expressed as numbers, and F and P sizes are commonly used.
The size is written on the back of the canvas, such as F6.

[Drawing frame (watercolor frame)]
Drawing frames are suitable for framing thin items such as drawing paper and photographs.
Sizes vary from inches, quarters, and halves.
It is possible to frame the work in the exact size, but it is also possible to frame the work in a slightly larger frame with a mat. In that case, even if the work is not a ready-made size, you can choose a frame of a similar size and frame the work.

[OA frames/panel frames]
Since OA frames and panel frames are made to fit the sizes of A and B paper, it is not usually necessary to adjust the size with a mat.
Recommended for those who want to frame their posters or frame them without a mat.
Panel frames tend to be light and simple.

[Other amounts]
There are also a variety of other types available, including temporary frames, award frames, colored paper frames, custom frames, and three-dimensional frames.
②Measure the size of the work
Measure the length, width, and thickness of the piece.
Even with ready-made items, there are misunderstandings such as thinking the size is A4 but it is actually A3.
The canvas may also be distorted and have different sizes on each side.
Also, please note that the 4-cut size of the picture frame and the 4-cut size of the drawing paper are different (T_T).
At Galleria Reino stores, staff will even measure and frame the artwork, but you should be careful when purchasing from an online shop.
③Choose a frame for your artwork
Once you have measured the size, all you need to do is purchase a frame that matches the type and size (⌒∇⌒)
I have written a separate article on how to frame the painting, so please take a look there.
If you have any questions, please contact us. At Reino Art, we also offer a framing concierge service, where we will create an image of the work framed for those who have difficulty imagining it in a frame. It costs about 500 yen, but if you buy a frame, you will get a 500 yen discount, so it's essentially free, so please take advantage of it (⌒∇⌒)
